End-of-Week Praise Report

If there is one thing I appreciate about conflicts, it is that they oftentimes expose a part of ourselves that requires improvement, other than solving the issue at hand. It is as if God is using these conflicts so we can talk about Him more and refine ourselves in the process.

Conflicts and confrontations are a part of our lives, whether we’re at home, at work, in school, or anywhere else where we have to deal with different kinds of people. And while conflicts sometimes don’t get resolved the way we wanted them to be, it is my prayer that we get to uphold what Scripture says about conflict resolution:

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” – Romans 12:18

God views relationships as sacred. I believe most of what the Bible talks about is centered on how to live with the people around us, which is reflective of His commandments.

So, when there is a debate about God, instead of us viewing it as an attack against Christianity or our faith, I think it’s best to see it as God creating an opportunity for people to know Him more. If you’ll ask, but what if the name of the Lord is being used in vain during the controversy? That is how most of us would see it. 

But what if for God, it’s the other way around? What if God is using it so more “seeds” will be planted because more people are now curious as to who God really is, His nature, how He moves in people’s lives, and how He uses every person, every situation for His glory and for His kingdom. We just can’t see the bigger picture and how one controversy plays out in His much bigger plan. 

Because again, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” – Isaiah 55:8

How people will receive God is not our goal. It is our only duty to share the Word of God, and how people will receive it will be between them and God. I think we can liken it to the Parable of the Sower. We are the sowers, and there will be different types of soil, and only God knows which of the seeds will grow and become fruitful. 

So, this is my praise report for this week – a realization. 😀 Nothing grand, nothing highfalutin, just a simple “Eureka!” moment. And because it’s the weekend, here are some of the movies I’ve watched on Netflix that I think should make it to your “must-watch” list. Don’t worry, I won’t be making a critical analysis of the movies here.

The first movie is an adaptation of the love story of Ruth and Boaz in the Bible. We all know the story – how love started with sparks and tragedy.

And the second one is A House of Dynamite, which is about the US government’s response to a nuclear attack. The writer did a very good job in creating the storyline by presenting it in 3 different angles or POVs. And yep, no spoiler alert, as promised. 😀

Note: There are some profanities in the movie.

I really think I left my heart in Mt. Mayon when I touched its soil during our ATV trail adventure last year. Because I keep receiving NDRRMC emergency alerts, though Bulan is 113 kms away from Daraga.

Out of curiosity, I asked my sister and Dad if they are receiving these emergency alerts, too, and they said no. Okay, so it’s just me. Why me, Mt. Mayon? 🤔

I hope I am not the reincarnation of Daragang Magayon (Christians don’t believe in reincarnation, just mentioned it for literary purposes only 😀 ). Because if I am, then most definitely I am going to change the narrative to a happy ending because I hate romantic tragedies.

Kaya puro 3 ang grades ko sa mga major subjects ko noong undergrad (I was a literature major) kasi tinutulugan ko sa klase ‘yang mga romantic tragedies. lol

But, thankfully, my reality isn’t as tragic, and I am praying it won’t be. I have faith in that. 🙏 I am also a feminist, so yes, it will be a woman warrior who wins this time.

A couple of weeks ago, I also noticed my device’s location was in Daraga and sometimes in Legazpi. That went on for a couple of weeks, though it is now set in Bulan. But I still receive the NDRRMC emergency alerts until now, which I actually appreciate because I don’t have to research Mt. Mayon’s status on a daily basis. This way I receive consistent updates, so I can include the communities near Mt. Mayon in my prayers.

Bagan sige an rimongdimong san ako kalag sa Albay. Pag-uli na baya tabi. Kaya pala lutang ako noong mga nakaraang araw. 😂

Speaking of 113, a thought just came to my mind, and I wondered if now is the right time to take L113. If you’re wondering what it is, here’s a brief overview:

I’ve had a lot of Victory Bible study group leaders, by the way, since I’ve been attending different Victory churches depending on the season I’m in and where God is calling me to be. Some of my VG leaders before were encouraging me to attend one, and I hesitated because I felt like I wasn’t qualified yet at that time.

I’ve been praying to God if this is now the perfect time to go through L113, and I plan to attend one in Victory BGC, if God wills it, when I go back to Manila. Victory Naga also offers L113, but it’s too far from our town.

Paano Matulog Sa Higaan Nang Hindi Kasama Ang Ulo?

To the Physics majors out there, I want to know what dynamics are we witnessing here aside from the obvious, which is the law of gravity? Kindly enlighten me what’s the logic behind a 6-foot bench but you somehow slept with your head hanging out? 🤔

Animal behaviorists might actually have a better explanation for this. Because it’s like buying a King size bed only to sleep on the edge of it. You might be better off selling the bed and sleep on the couch instead. 😅

Kung wala ng ibang rason, hanapan pa rin natin ng explanation. It’s like coming up with a problem out of a solution. lol Hay, Christine. Kaya hindi nakakapagtaka kung bakit binigyan ka ng 4 na grade sa Math 1. May solusyon na kasi, hinanapan pa ng problema. 🤣

Seriously, my inability to solve Math problems coherently has something to do with an abnormality in my brain and how it was structured or wired. Studies showed that this deficiency is hereditary, but I’m not blaming my ancestors. I hope were clear on that.

So yes, I really am serious about asking Elon Musk to be the sperm donor once I decide to get an IUI since he’s an advocate of populating this world with intelligent people. I’m very confident writing this here because it will never happen (him being the sperm donor). lol

I learned about this learning disability when I took my master’s degree in Special Education (I did not finish this because I got married). There’s a part of myself that was seeking for answers. And somehow, I got some of the answers through SpEd. They call it “dyscalculia.”

I interchange numbers when I write them down. I can correctly read them aloud, but when I start writing them, the numbers become all jumbled. So it takes a lot of concentration for me to remember their sequence. I also can’t do a mental calculation even if it’s just basic arithmetic.

I solve equations or count using my fingers (if there’s no calculator) or by writing the equation down. It usually takes me a long time to solve even just one Mathematical problem. Mine was only a self-diagnosis so I really can’t tell the severity of my case. There is no cure for dyscalculia, but the most effective way to minimize the effects of this condition later in life is through early intervention during a child’s developmental period. But thank God for Microsoft Excel and SPSS. 🙏

My brain has a learning deficit when it comes to Math and somehow compensated for it by focusing more on language development. I grew up having this fascination over highfalutin words I can remember them right away even after encountering them for the first time and can use them in the proper context (sometimes inappropriately 😅).

But the thing is, we were trained in my department back in college to write not to impress but to express – keep your vocabulary as simple as possible. Use layman’s terms, so to speak, especially if you’re into persuasive writing like me. Nothing convinces an audience more but by using the language of the masses. So if you’re going to look at my grades in school per subject, it would be 98% in English, 94% in Science, 89% in History & Filipino, and 77% in Math. lol

By the way, itong aso na ito ay alaga ng Tito ko who passed away two years ago (my Mom’s youngest brother). This dog kind of adopted himself na maging pet namin kapag andun kami sa bukid. Syempre nasasama kasi sya during lunch time.

But this dog is very intelligent and very loyal. He makes a very good farm dog and guard dog, too. Mukhang na-train ng Tita ko dahil kasama nya palagi kapag nagu-uling ng mga “bagul” (coconut shells) after mag-kopra doon sa bukid namin.

Makulit din syang dog. Andami nyang pakwela na tunay nga namang matatawa ka na lang. Like itong isa na nagpanggap syang pilay daw sya. Tapos biglang tumayo sabay tingin sa akin.

And the Best Dog Actor Award goes to…BAMBA! That’s his name. 😊

Need A Laugh, Anyone?

Valentine’s Day is a sad day for some people, and Facebook has been showing me these funny memes lately (some were written in Filipino though). So I thought, why not share them here to lift the mood just a little bit? I know my neighbor now thinks I really lost it laughing out loud all by myself. The lesson? Roll on the floor laughing silently or ROTFLS.

I support the anti-commercialism of V-Day actually, so I’m exempted (sort of) from all the hype. But, we still had a simple celebration at home and I appreciated ze husband still giving me a beautiful and lovely Ecuadorian rose (though it’s another premature death in the plant kingdom).

I’ll try my best to keep it alive hopefully for a couple more days using a concoction of plant food I found on the internet. 🌹

So, I told him that if he wanted to join the hype, he should buy me a live flowering plant instead that is in a pot with soil, roots, and all. 😉 I’ll plant it in our garden in Bicol, and I’ll put a tag with a date on it.

I find it more romantic every time a plant blooms, and I’m reminded of the unique story behind that plant. I also get to care for it and propagate it. And if I have inquisitive kids, the garden is one great avenue for storytelling and to motivate their love for nature. But, the best thing about receiving live plants as gifts is that I get to plant more and make this planet more habitable by reducing single-use plastic waste.

He thinks it’s an excellent idea. Ah yes, never underestimate the power of persuasion delivered in all subtlety. Do tell me though if you’re the one who’s not convinced. lol

Aside from laughing, there’s also another way to increase your happy hormones (dopamine) – dancing. This can also be a great opportunity to learn a new skill, shed off some pounds, and have a cardio workout (best for heartbreaks). Never mind if your feet don’t want to cooperate at first. We all started there. If after a couple of years, you still can’t keep up with the dance steps, just chop off your feet. I’m kidding. Try another genre like Salsa, which has slower dance movements. 🙂

P.S. I wish there will be Zumba classes offered here in our condo’s clubhouse because I’m a wrecking ball when I dance inside the condo. But I’ll be going to Bicol by April, anyway, so I’ll just learn Belly Dancing instead through YouTube tutorials for now. I can’t wait to use this belly dancing hip scarf. Or is it used on the tummy to cover the fat belly? 🤔

Niyan ko lang napansin na wara palan ako sin maski saro na article na sinurat didi gamit an Bikol Bulan tapos proud na proud ako na taga-Bikol ako. Aw nano baya. 😅
