Okay, now that title might have given you so much of what I intend this article to be – PIGGING OUT. 😀

But just to set things clear and straight, Brian and I seldom pig out as we are on a diet. YES. We are both a fitness buff and we take working out pretty much seriously. That also includes eating in moderation. Discipline, with everything.

It was because we wanted to try this burger restaurant that we have decided to somehow have our “cheat” day. Unfortunately, it was Brian who cheated. lol Because I gave half of my share to him since I insisted on sticking with my diet. (Good job, Hon, for finishing them all for me!) 😀

If you are to read my previous food review posts, I am currently hooked on the concept of “projects.” And if you are to ask me why, that’s because I love trying out new ideas. I love to learn and experiment so to speak. Thus, the trip to Burger Project.

In other words, Burger Project is all about making your own burger. It has the same concept with Project Pie that my siblings and I tried a couple months back (refer to this article: https://thejourneymansmoments.wordpress.com/2014/02/20/my-very-own-pizza-project-pie/). Both are very different though when it comes to choices of toppings (for the pizza) and fillings (for the burger).

To start on your project, you need to ask for an order form where you get to tick your choice from buns, burger patties, to vegetable fillings and a whole lot more of other ingredients and spices. Submit it to the cashier and pay your orders. Wait for a couple of minutes while they prepare your burger and voila, your special burger is now served. 🙂

The fact that I am oh so forgetful, I could not just remember the choice of ingredients I have for my burger. And it is because of this Brian and I almost switched burgers. ahaha Saved by the Jalapeno sticking out from his burger. 😀

We also tried one of their specialties, the Animal Fries, made of fried potato strings with grilled onions, minced garlic, special burger sauce, cheese sauce and cheddar cheese. If we are to rate it from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest, we will rate it with a 4. Yes, because Brian keep on telling me (in between munches) that the burgers are SOOO GOOD we’re gonna come back. He is just a total burger person. 😉

We were just so full after the burger experience so we decided to walk around Maginhawa Street and ended up at Moonleaf Tea Shop for a wintermelon milk tea. There is a long chain of great restaurants along Maginhawa Street you just have to keep coming back to try them all. 🙂

Next stop was Sbarro. An all time fave of mine. I had baked ziti, Brian had lasagna and we both had vegetarian pizza (spinach and mushroom). Yes, always include greens in your meals even if you pig out to maintain that healthy diet.

I met him when I was selected to be one of the study patients of a research at the Asian Eye Institute. It was an answered prayer – for my eyesight to be healed. I have God to be extremely grateful for with this blessing. And yet, the “package” did not stop there. Little did I know that I am soon to be partnered with my nurse in this thing which we call “love.” Ah yes, the Lord our God is indeed the great matchmaker and composer of everything.

Okay, now this is the part where it gets cheesy and cheesier. You might as well grate me or just allow yourself to be melted away. 😀

I waited for 2 years before God orchestrated I meet him. But the wait never really mattered because I was passionately driven in pursuing a personal relationship with God and in serving Him in those two years that I was not in a relationship with anyone.

I am in love with what I am doing so to speak. That should be what comes first – serve God, find your mission, and then find your mate. I got saved, I started sharing my faith in my blog, then I met my bf.

But did you know that I turned Brian down the first time he asked me out on a date? 😀 Yes, I didn’t feel it right at that moment. Because hubby dear just got out of a relationship and I don’t want to be a part of it because I made it clear to him that if he intends to pursue me, then he should do so with a clean slate. 🙂

So I told him that no, I can’t entertain him romantically at that point because he should make peace with his past first. I went home to my province and I stayed there for more than a month. At that time we constantly communicated but I was firm that we can only be friends. And I challenged him that if he is not patient enough to wait for me, then it is all fine with me if he pursues someone else.

I was also straightforward in telling him that I do not wish to be in a relationship with him if his intention was to forget his old flame. He assured me that it is because he loves me. In fact, he professed his love for me right after our first date. Unbelievable, right? lol 😀 But my brother told me that you can never really tell when you will fall in love. It doesn’t have a time period, nor an exact moment, and it can just hit you out of the blue.

Well, that is love in its emotional state. But love is a decision. And I am after the latter that is why I never rushed my feelings for him. I have restrained myself to wait even though the attraction was already there the first time we met back in AEI.

Besides, I wanted to ask God first and make sure the relationship I am going to enter is the one that He wants for me. I wanted to do exactly that during the Prayer and Fasting in our church come the first week of January. I was still in my hometown during this time so I got to ask God clearly what are His answers and without distractions.

Would you believe that one of the signs that God sent me was through a friend and sister in Christ who texted me out of the blue during the Prayer and Fasting that she dreamt about me wearing a white gown? 😀

We were both confused about what it meant at that time and then I just had the realization later on. And nope, none of my friends knew Brian yet at this point because we’re not yet dating. But I knew the sign was not enough in making a decision, so I continued praying.

My failed relationships in the past, which was the reason for my salvation and being born again, taught me to never seek for love at the wrong places and with the wrong people by waiting for God’s perfect best. 🙂

Brian though is never perfect. He has his own weaknesses and personal struggles same as me. We are all a work in progress when it comes to being the persons that God wants us to be. But we both rejoice in what is good, in what we have learned, in learning and where we are happy the most – pure and genuine happiness because we know it makes our God happy too.

We both share some interests and I know that if I am to list down all the qualities, it will be endless. But just to name a few that really stood out when we were just getting to know each other, I’ll give a brief rundown:

  • We both love the color blue.
  • We love viands that are not sweet.
  • We prefer communing with nature than spend long hours at the mall.
  • We love the simple things.
  • And lastly, we enjoy each other’s company.

Now, that last part is the one thing that I love the most. Why? Because it only means I could get to be who I am when I am with him. We don’t care if we look silly at times or if we crack the silliest jokes mindless of other people who would think we are being overly “corny” or hilarious. No pretensions so to speak. He accepts my eccentricities (mildly put, not exactly the medical term) and vice versa. The same as our relationship with God. We have to be as sincere and as open to Him as possible, connecting every single moment of our lives with Him from the moment we wake up until the time we lay our heads down the pillow. A personal, loving, and lasting relationship – that is how we got to know Him more.

And that is how I got to know Brian more – a personal moment at a secret garden (that is not so secret at all because it is well-known among the locals and tourists alike). 🙂

The place is very memorable to me. I have always been in love with gardens. They are my places of solace and comfort. I feel calm, at ease and more at peace with myself when I am surrounded by the best that nature could offer – simplicity.

Though I dressed up too “colorful” for the date making me look like one of the flowers in the garden and making me wish I’d never worn something as vibrant as that, I pretty much enjoyed the ambiance of the place. It is very RELAXING. I didn’t skip the opportunity to take more photos of literally anything I could lay my eyes on.

And yes, though they offer their menu in buffet style, you won’t feel too full afterward nor feel guilty for having eaten too much. They serve vegetarian dishes. Most of their dishes are very light and their pastas are not heavy on herbs and spices. Just a little bit of them to tease your palate. You have an option if you will have white or red sauce. Of course, how could I forget how Brian and I made fun of the chamomile hand wash/sanitizer because I thought it is just for decor of some sort or I will wash my veggie food there and I had to ask the waiter what is it used for (oh if embarrassment could kill, I’d be dead already. 😀 ). But it smells SOOO GOOOD!

I also love how they kept our bread warm. They rolled it in a piece of cloth (linen, I presume) and served it in a basket along with the spread and other spices. I love their salad dressings and spread, too! They offer quite A LOT of greens in their dishes which I absolutely relished. I am a veggie lover so I enjoyed making that munch and that crunch in my every bite of their salads. And to end it all, a nice serving of chocolate cake and tarragon tea.

Overall comment? It was a very happy and relaxing experience indeed. I adored every nook in Sonya’s garden. Aside from the restaurant, they also have the Panaderia and a store where you could buy goodies, memorabilia, and pasalubong for your friends and family. It is also a very suitable place for wedding receptions as they have a separate private venue for that near the restaurant.

I wished for my own home someday to be surrounded by lots of greenery too just like what we also have in our home in Bicol. I believe it is what makes every home a home – it looks natural, no too much synthetic ornaments.

Just like our relationship with God – you are more at ease with Him when it is genuine. 🙂

Every love story is created differently. But the one thing that they should all have in common is this – God at the center.

I believe I have to end this “date” on this note, for now, to save some memories for Brian and me to cherish. And this too, a poem which I made especially for him.

“B” for Burping at The Buffet on a Blessed Bountiful Birthday

Another late post. 😀 The part 2 of my previous post: A Birthday Like No Other. 🙂

I can boast of nothing else except of God’s greatness. I never asked for anything prior to my birthday. And yet, He surprised me with gifts that are irreplaceable by any material gift – to bless others and to spend my birthday with family and friends.

I would like to thank my family, first and foremost, for spending my special day with me. Though my parents are not here as they are in the province, I know they celebrated it with me in spirit. And we have a new member (Hi, Heather! Welcome to the family!). 😉

They also offer a wide range of desserts from cakes, ice cream to pastries. I just could not try all of them as they are far too many. 😦 But that is reason enough for me to go back to The Buffet, right? 😀

I particularly love the place with its high ceilings and spacious dining areas. It is a buffet restaurant so expect a lot of traffic from people going here and there to get food. But that wasn’t a problem at all as the food was carefully arranged and set in places that allow eaters to move around without bumping anyone.

Their lights were also superb! Chandeliers are everywhere giving you that mellow, romantic and really classy feel. They have a grand staircase leading to the function hall for special events.

Oh and yes, their comfort room is sooooo clean and they have free valet parking too. We are indeed having one of the great treats in our lives. I thank God for that! 😀

My Very Own Pizza @ Project Pie

Since I intend to make this blog as versatile and as diverse as it can be, I am doing this food review (not sponsored) and of course, to share the experience that me and my siblings had at Project Pie. 🙂

Why Project Pie?

From the name itself, it literally means working on a pie. Yes, as simple as that. But the only difference is that you get to create your own pizza by choosing your own ingredients.  Which could be pretty tedious and tasking, by the way, if you are the type who needs a long period of time before you decide (like me). Good thing though that at that time, the queue for placing orders was a bit long. I had ample time to decide which is which.  😉

They offer a wide array of ingredients from various types of cheese to a whole lot of meat and vegetable toppings. They also serve your pizza in a thin crust with all its crispy goodness.  Oh and yes, you get to choose what sauce you prefer for your pizza like white or red sauce. Isn’t it fantastic?

And what my siblings and I did is that we “exchanged” a little portion of our pizzas so we get to try all different combinations. Aha! Now, that gives you an idea. 😉

So, what else am I missing out…

Ahh, yes. The interiors. I pretty much love the cozy, and yet very modern design of the restaurant. It is not lavishly decorated but will surely capture your attention with its mellow lights. These little hanging bulbs look just like tiny fireflies to me. Though I also contemplated if it is possible to adopt this design to my own home someday. Hmm..

And yes, the “scripted wall.” This is that very interesting wall of quotations which made me laugh amusingly as most of them are very ironically written. Just the right optimistic/pessimistic/as-a-matter-of-fact/practical way of analyzing things. 😉

If I can just stare at that wall oblivious of the people around me, I would. Just so I could read all of them. They have like a hundred of them, scriptures! Tsk, far too many. But you can read some of them below. Enjoy! 😀

A Seasoned Life: My Past vs My Present

Life is like a drink.

Sometimes it is too sweet, but sometimes it becomes too sour. Sometimes it is bland and sometimes it just has the perfect blend.

I grew up with a lot of fears. I grew up knowing too well what my weaknesses are. I grew up with a lot of insecurities.

I got out of that world. A hunger crept within me. I explored, soared – I am enjoying every single bit of it. That was my notion of “freedom.”

Danger was lurking the moment I stepped out and spread my wings. I soared high unwary of failures. I held on to what this world offers. I made a lot of mistakes, far too many I lost track of what is good and what is right.

Then I fell.

I felt an excruciating pain. A pain from a wound that is nowhere visible. I sobbed, sprawled in the bathroom floor, on my bed, in a corner. Endless gruelling fits of flowing tears that continued for days, weeks, months and years.

Then I surrendered.

I surrendered to His love. It was because of His love that I was saved. I repented and I accepted – my faith as my fate. That I am His daughter and that He is my Father and my Master. Obedience and service to Him who made what I have now and where I am now possible.

Did I ever think that I would be where I am now? No. I had no idea. But I had felt it. It was far too strong to dismiss. To heed to the calling of being where I truly belong – in His refuge.

My drink now? I must say it’s the four seasons fruit drink – a combination of different flavors. Not too sweet nor too sour, just the right flavor. I am just happy I am ending this year with just the right attitude, the right faith and the right spirit.

Now, let’s drink to that and be merry, shall we? 😉

You Just Have To Learn How To Say “NO”

This red, hot chili reminded me of this word – NO. Some people like it, some don’t. And for most people whom I have offered this to who really, really hate chili, they just stood their ground and firmly said “NO” no matter how many times I have asked them to try it. (Well, I can really be VERY persuasive sometimes.) 😉

My eldest sister used to tell me this way, way back when I was younger – my teenage years. Now, I found myself saying this to myself again and again.

Say “NO” to a job that does not make you any better anymore – forced to work beyond what you can handle, compassion is absent, profit is the main target and offering minimum wages.

Know when your rights are violated. We tend to reason and equate this to how Christ has suffered for us – that we, too, should suffer the same.  Yes and no. Yes, we should be brave enough to withstand any challenge.  But no, learn to know when it is not healthy for you anymore. You have to think more of yourself at this point and look after your own welfare. Not because you are selfish but because you cannot give your best if you are not at your best. Quality versus quantity. How can you help others when you are struggling to even help yourself?

Say “NO” to a relationship wherein the other half requires you to meet his/her demands that are not supposed to be given at the point of your relationship (not yet married).

When a relationship brings you nothing but heartache, tears, doubts, lies, rage, contempt and more sins, it is time to let go. Mishaps in relationships are a given. Pain in love is inevitable. Yet with all things, they should always be in a state of balance. Never is there a thing such as pure and absolute happiness and just that. Neither should there be anything such as pain and sadness all the time.

Say “NO” to an addiction/craving that brings you nothing but wasted money, effort, time and a cursing heart.

It is time to give it up if it makes you feel bad as a person, if it makes you feel less of a person, if it makes you pose more questions of self-doubt than self-fulfilment and satisfaction.  Idolatry is one of the worst sins ever committed. You are not aware you are doing more harm than good to yourself with your decision to stick through it, making excuses for it.

Easy for me to say, that is what you are going to say. 🙂

I do get you.

We value our jobs because we need money to survive. But here is what I have to say too. There are a lot of better opportunities out there. You have better chances of letting God make you to who He wants you to be out there than where you are now. Who am I to say this? Let’s say I just learned it from experience and from the habit that I will let go rather than complain how I hate my job, how it is making me unhappy, unfulfilled, and let the world know about it. If you don’t want to let it go, learn to love it and be professional.

It’s hard to let go of someone you have learned to love and shared so many memories with, sad and happy. It is hard to let go of a companion whom you were used to spending most of your time with. It is hard to move on. Yes, maybe that is the reason why you don’t want to let go. It is the fear of facing the pain, the loss and the burden of carrying bittersweet memories. I know because I went through the same. But you were crying everyday, you are always in a state of doubt, in a state of unsettling situations, complicated compromises – if you still insist on keeping the relationship, ask yourself these questions:

1. How secure is my future with my significant other going to be like?

2. What future will my children and grandchildren have if I opted to stay?

3. How long until I reach my breaking point? And when that happens, is it already too late to change my mind?

4. What consequences do I have to go through and bear?

Addiction is a bad habit magnified to a thousand. When it strikes, it kills, it destructs. It developed because it nurtures the gratification it gives us – a sense of temporary high. But the question is, in every addiction, what else did it give you aside from that temporary high? None. Because again, as I have said earlier, when it strikes, it kills, it destructs until you are left sapped out. Empty – inside and out.

I am leaving you with not so many choices, am I not? Yes, because that is my intent in writing this piece – you just have to say “NO” to anything and everything that takes the GOOD out of you.

I am not a preacher, I hate public speaking nor am I good at it. I am no counselor – I am just a concerned individual. I am not perfect – I have made more mistakes and sins in my past than most of you ever did. And lastly, I am no God – I do not know everything.

I just intend to share. Because I have learned to say “NO.” You still have a choice. You still have your free will.

Which should go second or be in accordance to God’s will. Seek Him first and obey. He knows better than any of us, anyway. In fact, He knows what is best for us. Pray earnestly, pray hardest. Then, you’ll have the courage to say “NO” when the right time comes for you to say it. 🙂

All About Davao City: Dissecting Its Educational System and Its Culture

Though it was my second visit to Davao, I must say that the place never fails to amaze me, geographically and culture wise. It was a trip to Talikud Island when I first visited Davao along with my co-workers way back year 2009 as my supervisor was a “Dabawenyo” (a local of Davao city). But if there is one thing that differentiates this second visit from the first, it would be the visits to the schools.

My second visit to Davao was with my fellow graduate students last February 16-18, 2013 as the field work is part of our requirements in our Socio-Cultural Foundations of Education class in UP Diliman. Before the trip,  I already have my own expectations about the visit i.e. what we would learn regarding the different educational systems that they have in Davao, what kind of classrooms do they have, what kind of students do they cater, how do teachers instruct students, what are the materials that they use for teaching, etc. And as far as my observations are concerned, somehow all my expectations were met and even more.

If there is one thing that I find particularly significant about the educational systems in Davao, it would be the support, active participation and involvement of the local government with regard to the implementation of the said systems. Like for example in the Badjao community, the ALS (Alternative Learning System) program provides opportunities for the settlers in that community to participate in socio-civic affairs which would then allow them to raise their concerns and the issues that need to be dealt with i.e. health, source of livelihood, promotion of wellness for every family, etc. But it posed one certain dilemma – the idea of culture slowly diminishing once the Badjaos were educated. I believe educators, through the mobile teachers, are not just sent out to the field to teach the basics of writing and reading to the people of the Badjao community, old and young. It is also their responsibility to teach the Badjaos how to preserve their culture through the knowledge that they have acquired. For example in folk songs, these can now be written and preserved for the future use of the next generation. In the ALIVE Madrasah, for example, the children were taught Arabic, which is, preserving the native language by passing them on and by teaching them to the younger generations. MTBMLE (Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education) also has the same aim and in the class that I have observed, children are more receptive, they are more at ease when it comes to learning and they do participate actively in the discussions. The ALS at the city jail, however, may not be inclined to cultural preservation but it somehow shares the same vision to that of the E-skewala Program and the Open High School of the Davao National High School which look into holistic development of skills to those who may not have the same opportunities as what regular students commonly have.

All the educational systems that we were able to visit in the selected schools in Davao hold one very good vision which would benefit all – both the indigenous groups and the non indigenous groups. I see this as satisfying one very important goal and should be the main goal of every educator and every educational system – breaking down barriers when it comes to providing opportunities in terms of knowledge acquisition, cultural ventures and holistic development of every individual. The Pamulaan College and the ALS at the city jail are very promising projects considering that learning is not held in a regular classroom setting/school. It posits greater challenges not just for the educators involved in running the program but as well as to the learners themselves. Indeed, the society, as a whole, has a huge partaking in making the program a success. For example in Pamulaan College, one challenge that I see in the implementation of their mission is considering how open the society would be when it comes to promoting culture and passing it on by teaching the cultural traditions, beliefs and practices to the younger generation. The idea may sound interesting to foreigners and those who are not particularly in the area, but will the locals, themselves, voluntarily participate in promoting the advocacy and not because it was required by the city government of Davao? It is imperative in every advocacy/mission that they should aim for the success of the system taking into consideration that its success entirely depends on how involved the community is and not only with the supporters and the organizers who run that mission.  I also would like to put emphasis on what kind of opportunities will the graduates of the college have, career wise and will they still devote in promoting the college’s aim even after graduation. As for the ALS in the city jail, it is a huge responsibility not just for the educators but also for the government officials concerned with the project to make the program not just as a one-time, testing project but that its implementation will remain consistent regardless on who holds office both in the department of education in Davao and the local government.

I have observed that when it is time to change officials, the problem lies in keeping the projects running implemented by the previous officials and maintain consistency. Newly elected/ appointed officials also would like to raise and push through with their own projects regarding the educational system and society in general. It will continue to be a greater challenge that a very good collaboration between the local government and the educators would push through as any tension between the two when it comes to promoting projects will and can affect the status of the implementation of said programs.

Learning the culture part is where leisure would come in. Yes, the less serious part. I must say that our dissecting Davao’s educational system started and ended on a very positive note. And to cap off the 3-day field work, we have decided to tour around Davao city’s local hot spots at the last day of our stay there. If there is one thing I can say about Davao’s cuisine, it may not be far from the regular dishes we have in Manila, but the recipes have a slight twist to it, making them as a Davao original.

We were able to visit tourist attractions such as the Crocodile Park, the Butterfly house and the Japanese tunnel which all contributed to our having a very fulfilling field work/vacation. I may have been to Davao for more than once already but there will always be something more, something new, and something exciting to look forward in Davao city. Yes, 3 days are not enough for me to completely acquaint with the place and learn more about its culture.

That would definitely describe the experience I had during the Fashion Illustration workshop of Ms. Tin Iglesias sponsored by Rio Mints at Thaipan Restaurant last November 24, 2012. It was a spectacular afternoon of colors, lines, food and lots of fun. This was the first fashion illustration workshop I have attended and I must say that never have I enjoyed an occasion as much as I have enjoyed this workshop wherein I barely know the attendees.

The workshop was even made more fun by the perfect ambiance of the restaurant which is located at Tomas Morato in Quezon City. The interiors are just so cozy with all the soft, mellow light from the hanging lamps and of course, how could I forget the delicious Thai meals served while we were drawing. Although it was not my first time to taste Thai cuisine, I must say that it never fails to please my appetite. Thus, if I am to rank the ambiance and the food, I must say that I will give it a perfect score of 5, 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. The place is just suitable for any small group meetings as the limited space makes it more convenient and cozy for the attendees to socialize and acquaint with one another.

The workshop started with a short introduction of the speaker and host, Ms. Tin Iglesias. She is a graduating BS Clothing Industry student at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. But she has already been invited to numerous fashion events and been featured in several fashion magazines both local and abroad. She has also received several fashion awards and been making a lot of fashion designs for clothing companies here and internationally.

Truly talented – I know that is what you are going to say upon seeing her art works. And at such a young age, I could not help but admire her and admit that she is going to make a big name and be among the best in the fashion industry. Afterwards, we were then given the chance to create our own fashion illustration after learning the basics of figure drawing and portrait sketching.

All I can say afterwards is this – SUPERB! I am looking forward to yet another Fashion Illustration/Fashion Designing workshop with her. Never thought that fashion can be made as exciting as this. When Food Cravings Are Unleashed; My Cooking Style

This is something that would appeal most to one of our senses – the taste buds. And yes, the hungry tummy. 🙂

Cooking is indeed, like art. It is a skill that you need to practice in order to create a wonderful masterpiece from combining the ingredients, to choosing the right cooking temperature, to coming up with a well-cooked, superb dish. It is TOUGH. It took me how many years before I can finally say that I am doing good with it. Keeping my fingers crossed on that. 😉

Yes, I have been cooking since I was in first year college. That was the moment when I had to make good use of the new-found freedom which is to try and learn different things. Learning, for me, didn’t stop there though. Until quite recently, I still crave to learn more as I possibly could.

Most of my dishes are Filipino dishes. I haven’t tried baking, although I really would want to learn how. That would be next on my to-do list. Definitely. So here are some of the Pinoy dishes that I have cooked, which are all this – a labor of love.

Bulalo or Filipino Beef Marrow Soup is one of my personal favorites. Especially during the cold weather. The beef bone marrow and the beef shanks are boiled until the meat becomes tender along with the cabbage/pechay, corn and potatoes. When done, you can garnish it with onion leeks just like what I did below. Yes, cooking is not complete without garnishing your dish before placing it on the table. :-p

This next dish is called Sinigang na Hipon or Pinoy Style Shrimp in Sour Soup. The shrimp is boiled along with the   tomatoes, onions and camote tops using either tamarinds, calamansi or a sinigang mix to make the soup sour. You can also use fish or meat instead of shrimps.

Next would be Menudo, cooked the Filipino style. We usually use beef or pork as the main ingredient and just add carrots, potatoes, bell pepper, and chick peas. As for the sauce, I bought a pack of ready-made Menudo sauce and just mixed it along with the other ingredients when tenderizing the meat. And yep, I did not add chick peas for this one.

What I have next is Bistek Tagalog or the Filipino version of Beef Steak. We just boil the beef sirloin until it becomes tender in soy sauce, garlic, onion rings, calamansi, and season with black pepper. I usually like my Bistek Tagalog topped with lots of onion rings. Don’t worry, I usually prepare a mint candy every after a meal with this dish. I guess you already know why. 😉

This is originally a Chinese dish but it became a common Filipino dish through time. We call it the Lumpiang Shanghai. It is made of ground pork seasoned with salt and pepper and I usually add carrots and onions before mixing them together. I place a thin portion of the mixture on a lumpia wrapper which can be bought in the local supermarkets and fry them until they are golden brown. My mom would put an egg in the ground pork mixture as a “binder” so that ground pork tidbits won’t scatter on your pan while frying.

Last but definitely not the least would be the Misua soup. Another dish adapted from the Chinese. The noodles used for this dish would be salted Chinese noodles made from wheat flour. We usually add along with it meatballs or ground pork, patola (sponge gourd), onions and then season with black pepper. I replaced the sponge gourd (which I don’t have at that time) with carrots and cabbage.

I am sure by the time you finished reading this, you’re all hungry and famished ready to devour any food you see. Yes, good food is food not just for a healthy tummy but for good thoughts too. Now, writing this post just made me hungry. Off to the kitchen, I go. 😀

Just in case you are wondering how I learned cooking, I owe it all and would have to say my utmost gratitude to my family starting from Dad, my Mom, my 3 older sisters and my brother who taught me the art of cooking and are now my (worst) food critics. hahaha Kidding. Nah, they are the best critics when it comes to everything. 😉
